“I have known Jeff Leishman for over a decade now. Jeff is undoubtedly one of the top coaches in the game. He has an extensive background coaching some of the best players in the world, but more importantly he has been able to develop golfers from a young age into top ranked professional golfers. That unique skill - to truly develop a golfer is a testimony to his approach. Jeff has been in this game for a long time and has always been a pioneer with using technology. He utilizes all available technology - but more importantly he wisely knows when and how to apply any information while still drawing from his vast experience. His mixture of science, research, feel, intuition, deep caring, tapping into outside resources and fundamentally leaving no stone unturned has been an inspiration to my own coaching model and philosophy.”.

The most important coaching skills are the abilities to communicate and connect.

If I can reach you, I can make you better.

No one cares what you know, until they know that you care

I have been coaching players at the highest level of competitive golf for over 20 years. I played competitively myself, and I came to coaching with a very clear understanding of what was needed and what was missing in traditional golf instruction. This is a game of fine lines and delicate balances in which even the smallest change can bring about significant results. That fact must be handled with complete understanding of what works, why it works and how it can be better.

I have coached 17 players to status and success on both the LPGA and PGA Tours, and countless others on their journey from “I want to be good” to “I want to see what I can accomplish” to “I want to be the best”. In every relationship I first establish how someone learns and why they do what they do. The “how” may be verbal, visual, hands on, or a combination of those. The “why” may be the result of physical limitations or injury, it may be mental or it may simply be habitual. Understanding the how and why are the building blocks of a successful coaching relationship.

Every golf swing – every golf game – has built in road blocks, safety nets and idiosyncrasies. We need to get rid of the obstacles, define acceptable misses, embrace the differences between you and the person beside you on the range, and create a plan. I have studied the golf swing with the best instructors in the game. While I don’t always agree with their approach or methods, I do have a respect for – and an understanding of them all. I believe strongly that we need to be wary of methods and diagnostics that deal only with the “what”, and fail to address the “why”.

Thoughtful change does NOT have to come with regression.

I also believe that change does not have to come with regression. Steps back are NOT inevitable when taking steps forward. If I can help high level player become 10% better with every aspect of their game – without contaminating the 90% they do well – they will see results and have success. While the Hypocratic Oath doesn’t actually say “first do no harm”, it DOES say: “I will use treatment to help the sick according to my ability and judgment, but never with a view to injury and wrong-doing”. Seems simple enough…

Throughout my career I’ve traveled the world and formed relationships with the best and most current educators and innovators in the fields of functional movement, biomechanics, motion capture, physical training and rehabilitation therapy. I have worked with sports psychologists and performance specialists. I believe that as long as I teach…I will always have something to learn. As a coach, I’ve been lucky enough to see my players progress, improve and succeed at the highest level, with multiple wins on all of the world’s major golf tours. I’ve also had the great pleasure of bringing joy back to people’s games and careers.

I own and operate a TrackMan launch monitor and have been certified by the Titleist Performance Institute (TPI) as a Level 2 golf coach.
